Social Media Marketing

Workshops, webinars, hands-on training - I have done it all and am finally working through the trauma that social media marketing has caused me.  And, though the idea is beginning to penetrate my brain, the fog remains thick.  I can say that I am much further along than many small business owners I talked to – they are too overwhelmed and mystified to even think about what social media means.

I signed up for LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter and manage to spend an hour or so every week making entries, connecting with friends and colleagues, sharing information, making and receiving recommendations.  From my efforts so far I landed four speaking engagements which led to more sales of my book “From the Pits to the Palace.  I also have received several inquiries about my small business adviser services.

The cost has been small – I have not spent more than $50 for training – and I have more than made it back in sales.  Check out the Center for Women and Enterprise for hands on social networking workshops.

Share the power of your stories with our community of entrepreneurs.  From marketing and business planning to balancing work and family, share what tips and tactics worked or did not work for you.

I am also working through the social media marketing trend and learning as I go. I have learned that for a small amount you can run ads on Facebook that will show up on the right hand side of the screen. I haven't used the feature but I do know business owners who have and they have found it to be useful. The more you spend the more your ad is visible. The less you spend the less it is seen. I am realizing that keywords are important in publishing your website. I am going to continue to change the words to see which ones work the best. People are finding my site on google, I believe through word of mouth and friends on Facebook. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make Facebook more useful I could use the help.

I too have spent much time learning about the various social networking tools. One thing I can confirm is that social networking is imperative to the growth of any business in this day and age. When using tools such as Twitter, I've found that Twitter is my second largest group of visitors to my site. When I took a break from using Twitter for one month, my sales dropped significantly.
The proof is in the results, so I am sold on the idea that social networking is a must!
    thanks!

Can you please provide some tactics that you use on Twitter to increase your sales? Is it in the Tweets? What you say, how you say it and when? Connecting to other sites?
